The Historic Preservation Commission has three vacancies beginning February 1, 2019. The vacancies are for three year terms. The current seats for appointment are held by Wendy Davidson, Robert Wilson and Travis Masters who resigned in November since he moved out of town.
The Planning Board has three vacancies beginning February 1, 2019. Two of the vacancies are ETJ County appointed currently held by Jack Gilstrap and Jeanette Holland. The third vacancy is for an in-town member currently filled by Dan Kelly.
The Board of Adjustment has five vacancies. Two vacancies are for Reg ETJ members appointed by County. Those seats are currently held by Charles Davis and one is vacant. There is one Alternate ETJ member appointed by the county which has been vacant since January 2018. There is one Reg in town member vacancy currently being filled by Bob Safrit. Mr. Safrit notified us in writing he would not be seeking reappointment since he is not living in Beaufort full time. There is also an Alt in town member vacancy (expiring in 2021) which was held by Travis Masters.
The vacancies have been published in the Carteret News Times, on the Town of Beaufort website, in the Town of Beaufort newsletter and the Town of Beaufort Facebook page. Currently, I have five applications for appointment. Those applying for reappointment are Jack Gilstrap (Planning Board County Appointment) and Wendy Davidson. Upon direction of the Board of Commissioners, I will notify Rachel Hammer, County Clerk of the desire for Jack Gilstrap to be reappointed. Robert Terwilliger is applying for the Board of Adjustment. Janet Woodward is applying for appointment to the Planning Board (1st choice), HPC (2nd choice) and BOA (3rd choice). We have one application which does not qualify due to the applicant not living in town or in the ETJ.
Our ordinance governing these boards indicates the current holder of the seat will remain in place until reappointment or other appointments are made by the Board of Commissioners.
